How can I build my own putting green?

Posted by: aaa_janitor In: Putting Greens

Can I use any grass? How about lawn mower? Can I get all I need at a local store or do I have to order online?

Sure you can. Grass that stays low and dense is best. What variety will also depend on where you live. Northern and southern lawns generally rely on different grasses, as some don’t overwinter well, and others can’t deal with southern heat.

Here’s the skinny:

Building a putting green is actually relatively easy.
You need lots of sand and lots of time.

You will need a variety of bentgrass or bermuda grass.
A cylinder lawn mower – the others rip up the turrf!!

And when you have built it, it will need watering almost every day, rolling, feeding every week and mowing at least every other day.
ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS??
If so see my website.
