make a mound, level the top of the mount, put sand, plant grass, wait the grass to establish, make a hole, put a pin and flag and putt a ball to the hole

Hi Stephanie, Putting greens are very expensive to make and even more expensive to take care of.A simple motorized used greens mower will cost you at least $500.00. Chemicals to treat for insects and diseases another $600.00-$1000.00/yr.The best and cheapest thing you can do is this.
Get a garden hose and lay out a irregular green. Spray paint the ground around the hose.Remove hose. Lightly dig down about 2 inches into ground surrounding the "green" with the dirt from the hole. Put gravel in the bottom and fill with concrete. Before putting in the concrete order 2 putting cups from a golf supply store.Purchase little flags to go in them.Put the cups in when you put the concrete in. Get some indoor outdoor carpet and put it over the concrete cutting out the hole for the putting holes.Use rocks and other landscaping items to landscape around your green.Good luck.
